Community Update 2.0

A New Age Begins

A page has turned.

The horizon crossed.

All have felt the compelling sensation that follows the beginning of a new age.

The confined are unprepared for their impending liberation.

They delay collapse…

In fear of Conquest.

Happy New Year! – ♥ – Creative Mob

We’ve hit the ground sprinting in 2026…

We’re back to recruiting new members,

rolling out a new standard for marketing and community engagement across all of our socials,

and putting our best into producing a demo worth telling your friends about.

Speaking of new standards for community engagement, our development updates are going to look different now.

Starting this month, our marketing campaign towards our planned Summer 2026 demo release begins!

Going forward, all of our focused Community updates will be spotlighting a single department on the team. We’ll cycle through them each month!

This means more focus on related assets, larger updates in general, and more spotlight on the talent that makes up the team

How could it get better? Multiple updates a month. That’s how.

We’re trying something new. Now for every update you’ll get a monthly calendar of smaller updates that will premiere on our YouTube.

These will be art showcases, lore drops, and development diaries from the team.

Here is January’s:

So which department goes first?

A Library of Treasures

Many ages ago, when the world was still young and the stars were still few, Helsa had only just begun to make life on the land created by Selje and Malm.”

Ancient Clay Tablet – Matches: “The Rope of The Seasons”

Dwarves, like all creatures, must answer the same questions pertaining to their own existence.

“Where do Dwarves come from?”

“What does it mean to be a Dwarf?”

Where do Dwarves who leave this canvas travel?”

The Dwarves took comfort in the Urthrainar. Escapes to the burdens of knowledge.

Malm was a quiet, spirited, artist. For a time, he loved his other, Selje, the intelligence, that with spirit, forms creativity.

Malm can not help but feel love for all the lesser gods, for without them, what is a canvas or an anvil?

He even loved still Selje, despite her cunning deceiving him of his hammer,

Heimsmidr

“Skadi, most beautiful of the gods, I beseech thee. Long have I watched thee, long have I admired thy beauty. Grant me but one request, o Silfrmaer, and let my lips know the taste of yours,”

“Skadi’s Kiss” – Collected Myths of Dwarven Gods

Skadi was a Beautiful Goddess. Malm had loved her for a long time before first approaching her.

Though he was loath to do this, the Firsmidr left his volcano to speak to the Moon.

Skadi asked Malm something of his obstruction.

He responded with a request made in adoration…

“I will accept your request, Eldsmidr, on one condition,” replied Skadi.

She then pulled at her hair, drawing three strands.

“With these pieces of moonlight, forge me three items more beautiful than any known to any man, orc, or dwarf. If I am satisfied, I will give you not one, but three kisses,”

she touched his right cheek.

“Here,”

she touched his left cheek.

“Here,”

she touched his lips, and Malm leaned forward ever so slightly.

“And here.”

Malm took the pieces Selje had given him to make the chain with. “Very well, Undirraedaru. But know this; thou dost play with the flames of the forge by swinging the pieces of my hammer in front of my face. Someday, I will rebuild my hammer. And then thy head shall be the first that I crush,”

“Undirraedaru for Little Dwarven Children” – Immortals, for the Youngest of Us

Malm was, after all, the Skapari, the origin of all things in the world. As he was also the embodiment of creativity. As he was also self-respecting, as all Dwarves should grow up to be, and threatened Selje rightfully. Of course, if Selje did not destroy Heimsmidr, Malm would have never forged her the Arstidabond, and we would have no seasons. And that little Eldsborn, would mean that we would have no bread and no ale.

How Are Devils Made?

A once dominant Dragon civilization fell to a creeping magical sickness.

Those who could flee vanished into the skies, leaving their scorched homeland behind.

Then, the strange, green, slippery humanoid creatures followed the shifting climate, driven from their ancestral swamps by an unforgiving Sun.

Their presence was temporary, and when the climate started changing, they moved on as well, leaving behind something so delicious, so tasty, so… dangerous.

Years later, the Kobolds discovered what had been abandoned in the cool hollows of the earth.

It seemed like a gift from the gods.

There was a great feast.

Euphoric.

Incredible.

Truly, a legendary night.

But, by morning, some were dead.

Others survived, but not unchanged.

The land was inherited by a poisoned, broken, divided, once intelligent civilization.

Every Kobold has changed, some more, some less.

The Bulwark of Dûrhmrath

When the Jarl and the Grey Legion reached Dûrhmrath, the stronghold was indeed lost.

They found the king’s body laid upon a silver platter, his children’s heads arranged around him, and the queen’s remains desecrated beyond words.

In the distance, the war drums of Uraknar Skull-Bearer, chieftain of the Grakthul,

Thundered

It announced their arrival.

Eritod Grumbleaxe readied his warriors to take vengeance, even if it meant their deaths.

The Scholars Behind the Scrolls

Artem – Lead Writer

Hello everyone!

My name is Artem, and I’m the Lead Writer on Conqueror: Reign of Madness.

I’ve worked the most on the Orcish and Dwarven lore, specifically focusing on locations, Chiefs, and Jarls.

When developing the Orcish Pantheon, I drew a lot of inspiration from Hidetaka Miyazaki’s work and God of War, not particularly from Kratos himself, but more from the brutality of the Greek realm.

Dwarven characters and locations were impacted by “The Song Of Ice And Fire” universe, and of course, D&D. Even some of the Dwarven characters and names are easter eggs from my college D&D group, a world they introduced me to!

Davide – Assistant Lead Writer

Hey everyone, I am Davide.

Recently, I wrapped up the story of the Grey Legion, a Dwarven division marked by their doomed and sad past.

I also worked with Katie on the concept of an unannounced race’s lore and how it influences the Elven societies.

My inspirations as a writer come mostly from The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, as well as the work of the Italian historian and popularizer Alessandro Barbero.

Diego – Writer, 2D Prop Artist

I’m Diego

I’ve been working on Human religion in the world.

Additionally, I’ve also been refining the history of the continent.

Aside from the obvious inspiration from Overlord, I’m also inspired by the Elder Scrolls and Geneforge series. The latter being the one that inspires me to write the most.

Katie – Writer, Gameplay Designer

Hi, I’m Katie!

We’re working hard to build a vibrant, storied world for players to discover in the demo and beyond. Just recently, I’ve had the opportunity to write about the religion and culture of two other races we haven’t announced yet!

I’m also on the design team. As a game writer, I strongly believe that narratives should be developed alongside game mechanics, allowing story and gameplay to bring out the best in each other.

For most of my career, I’ve actually worked as a poet, playing games in my spare time. My inspiration comes from a wide range of stories, including a lot of niche poetry (Jamie Hale’s Shield is a firm favourite, if anyone is interested). But in terms of games, I am completely obsessed with the narrative design of Dark Souls, and bring it up at every given opportunity. Conversely, I also love short, narrative-focused indie games that explore what it means to be human; Night in the Woods, Mutazione, and Abzu, to name just a few.

Noah – Writer

Hello Conquerors!

My name is Noah, and I was one of the earliest hands-on this project.

Some of my contributions were the Advisors to the Conqueror, whose names you may have seen in one of our previous project updates!

I’ve also written a couple of interesting Dwarven characters you all might meet post demo…

All in all, I’ve been a massive fan of the Overlord series for years, and despite not having many skills beyond writing and voice-over, I was actually going to try to create a successor myself!

Thankfully, before that, I saw a post on the Overlord Reddit about this project and volunteered instead.

Overlord is obviously going to be a big inspiration for me, I plan on replaying the games and taking notes as I go. Some other projects that have always inspired me are Fable, Lord of the Rings, the Elder Scrolls (primarily Skyrim, which I have reinstalled and modded again), and Warframe.

The End of A Beginning

This brings us to the end of this Community Update.

Everyone behind Conqueror: Reign of Madness is incredibly proud to keep working on this world.

Thank you, sincerely, for your continued support.

Our team of writers is incredibly talented. The world they are building is exciting. We are eager to share more in the future, and for our community to discover these myths and legends within the world of Conqueror themselves.

Who knows what gets lost when translating Dwarven artifacts…

Stay tuned for more updates from us this month, keep an eye on our studio YouTube channel!
